I thought the All Your Fault wallpaper would be the only political wallpaper I did, but as I was tinkering with this, I did this little series of it.

This wallpaper is the "Red County" wallpaper. If you're a Republican, or just want to remind yourself that the nation is covered in republican-voting counties, this is your wallpaper.

Disclaimer: These desktops don't have a message one way or another. I just did 'em cuz I thought they looked kinda nifty.

Holy crap, I didn't really realize how much of the nation is Republican!! But, if you think of it this way, its impressive that the Democrats will stacked up almost 56 million votes when there's so little blue on this map.

The reason is because this map shows _counties_. Counties are not based on population at all. So, while you may see thousands of 'red' counties throughout the midwest and rural western areas, all of those equal about a handful of densely populated counties. These maps aren't indicative of a "red dominated country" or anything else. They are the equivalent of forming your political opinions about this country by opening up a coloring book and scribbling in the country with a big red crayon.

Fred;

I'm aware that this was based on counties, but the simple fact remains that I see a great deal more Red on the map than Blue. The maps *are* indicative of a "Red Dominated Country". Even in the states that went to Kerry, there's a great deal of Red on 'em.

I think it's good art.

I think it's also worth mentioning, that dirt doesn't vote. :)

baaahahaha ...voting dirt... i find that really funny for some reason

One problem with this map, if you're looking at Red Vs. Blue counties, is that the style of this map has caused some red counties to cover over the blue counties. Most notably, if you're looking at this, look at Chicago (Cook County). The map makes it look like all of Chicagoland voted Republican. Cook County is probably one of the most Democratic areas in all of Illinois.

The Blue Nation map has the same issue... while the style of both is cool, it makes either look like they got more than they did.
:iconfightindaman:
also, the map does not show varyation. A county which is 75% Republican looks the same on the map as one which is 50.1% Republican. Not every "Red" county was a landslide for Bush. There is another map, which shows in varying shades, from red, through purple, to blue a more realistic picture of voter distribution.

I'm sure you folks happened to forget the whole "These desktops don't have a message one way or another" part of the description, right?

I didn't make the thing variated like fightindaman has complained about, cuz it didnt look as nifty ORN and OBN looked. Both of them look like they cover others cuz certain counties are lifted up - again, cuz it looked nifty.

Yeesh.
